Medal of Honor Bestowed

Dr Treistman Honor

Cardiologist Bernardo Treistman, MD, chief of cardiology at St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital, received the Gold Medal of Honor for Distinguished Services to the Nation as Honorary Consul of Peru in Houston for the past 28 years. The award recognized his contribution in the service of his country as consul and his contributions to the medical field and medical community of Peru.

The prestigious award is one of Peru's highest civilian honors. The executive decree, signed by Peruvian President Alan Garcia, was presented to Dr. Treistman by the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Nestor Popolizio in a special award ceremony at the Torre Tagle Palace in Lima, Peru.

Among those in attendance were Igor Gregoric, MD; Andes Mesa, MD; Peruvian ambassadors, colleagues, former patients, friends and family of Dr. Treistman. A toast of honor followed the ceremony, continuing with a banquet at the Club Nacional. MedalAt the annual Cardiology Society Meeting in Peru, special recognition was given to Dr. Treistman, St. Luke's and the Texas Heart® Institute (THI) for many years of contributions to the society's education efforts.

Dr. Treistman has been a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital staff and of THI for more than 30 years. Dr. Treistman also serves as interventional cardiologist at THI; attending cardiologist for THI's teaching program; associate cardiologist at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital; and associate clinical professor of internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
